Do different grades of nuts have different dimensions?

The grade of the nut does not have any implicit bearing on the physical dimensions. For example, an ASTM A563 Grade DH heavy hex nut will be the exact same dimensions as an ASTM A194 Grade 2H heavy hex nut and an A563 Grade A finished hex nut will have the same dimensions as an SAE J995 Grade 2 finished hex nut. All of these dimensions are per ASME B18.2.2, the industry standard for nuts.

The examples above all assume the standard pattern for a given grade, but that doesn’t mean that an A194 Grade 2H finished hex nut or J995 Grade 2 heavy hex nut doesn’t exist or can’t be manufactured, they just aren’t standard.
