Bellevue, WA, USA

In 2018, a project was to commence consisting of the placement of dual light rail track spanning from East 124th Avenue to NE 20th Street, located in Bellevue, WA. In addition to the track placement, the project provides for public and private utility relocation, sidewalks, landscaping and property relocation. The Bel-Red Segment begins on the eastern side of 124th Avenue and continues east on the south side of the existing West Tributary to the Kelsey Creek pond wetland. The track continues to the 130th Station, which includes a 300 stall surface park and ride facility. The segment continues through NE 20th Street, which then transitions and terminates at the WSDOT right of way of SR520, the eastern limit of this application. Although this is only one section of an ongoing light rail track replacement project, this particular section was slated to be completed by early 2019.

In October of 2019, Portland bolt was given the opportunity to manufacture the headed anchor bolts required. The anchor bolt was specified as ASTM F1554 Grade 55 and had a forged hex head. This anchor bolt was paired with a high strength hex coupling nut meeting ASTM A563 Grade DH. Since this project is federally funded, the headed anchor bolts, as well as the coupling nuts, needed to be 100% melted and manufactured in the USA. The fasteners are also exposed to an environment considered to be corrosive, so they were also hot-dip galvanized. Portland Bolt hot-dip galvanizes in house, which helped maintain quality control as well as expedited the turnaround time. In total, approximately 6,000 pounds of headed bolts and coupling nuts were produced and shipped to the site to keep the contractor on schedule.
