The South Brooklyn Marine Terminal is an intermodal shipping, warehousing, and manufacturing complex in Brooklyn, New York, specifically straddling roughly 29th through 39th Streets in the Sunset Park / Greenwood Heights area, along Upper New York Bay. Historically, it served as a container / break-bulk port and had rail connections to freight lines, giving it the ability to handle large shipments via both ship and rail. After decades of underuse, the city selected operators, which are a partnership between Red Hook Container Terminal and Industry City, to reactivate South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, aiming to convert it into a modern maritime hub. The redevelopment involves 63 to 73 acres of staging, storage, heavy-lift platforms, warehouses, offices, and upgraded berths capable of handling heavy cargo.

The South Brooklyn Marine Terminal Wharf Project is a large-scale redevelopment and upgrade of the existing terminal, turning it into a state-of-the-art port facility, especially oriented around offshore wind infrastructure. The upgrade consists of the installation of three new wharf structures and upgrades to bulkheads and fenders, dredging activities, and deepening berths to allow large vessels. Another key component is the construction of a new operations & maintenance facility, approximately 75,000 square feet in size, with warehouse, office, and parking facilities. There is also a substation being built to connect offshore wind-generated electricity to New York City’s power grid.

In the Winter of 2025, Portland Bolt was contacted to be a supplier of the custom anchor bolts for this project. Portland Bolt furnished the contractor with large diameter, hot-dip galvanized F1554-105 fully threaded anchor rod assemblies, including A563-DH heavy hex coupling nuts, and associated hardware required for anchoring on the SBMT Wharf Project. Since Portland Bolt hot-dip galvanizes in-house, this product was a perfect fit. We were able to manufacture and ship the anchor bolts as needed so that they would arrive at the job site on time.
