Three Forks, MT, USA
Project Overview
The historic East and West bridges in Three Forks, MT, have been awarded a $1 million grant from the Montana Department of Transportation to help with the costs of replacing the Eastern Old Town Bridge. This financial support will ease the burden on county funds. The Eastern bridge, standing for over 128 years, was closed in 2022 due to safety concerns from structural cracking. This closure led to a 10-mile detour, causing delays for local commuters and travelers. The new bridge aims to improve safety and reduce travel times and is set to be completed in early 2025.
Meanwhile, the Old Town West Bridge, which is also being replaced, is funded by Broadwater County. The two counties are working together to replace both Jefferson River Bridges.
Portland Bolt was selected to provide the anchor bolts for this repair project. The renovations on the bridge required large 1½” diameter swedged anchor rods, along with the accompanying A563-DH heavy hex nuts and F436-1 washers. These components were specified as F1554 Grade 55 and were galvanized to ensure durability against environmental conditions. Also provided were ⅞” diameter A325 structural bolts and 1½” smooth pins manufactured from A36 steel that were about four feet long.
Manufacturing Process
Portland Bolt specializes in providing swedged rods which are often used as anchor bolts. Our 137,000-square-foot manufacturing facility consists of the equipment required to produce different configurations of anchor rods. We are one of only a handful of companies that not only manufactures anchor bolts but also galvanizes them within the same facility. This allows us to control both the quality and the lead time.
