Ruckersville, VA, USA

In early spring of 2013, ground was broken on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) expansion at its Ruckersville, Virginia campus. Researchers will use the new facility to conduct safety tests on passenger vehicles by performing impact tests and rating the vehicles based on their performance. The project includes a new 5 acre outdoor covered test track, new office space, new conference rooms, and technology upgrades. The outdoor test track is covered by a fabric roof structure which is fastened to high strength anchor rods embedded in concrete pylons.

Portland Bolt manufactured 1-1/2” diameter F1554 grade 105 hot-dip galvanized anchor rods for the project. The fabric roof required 18 concrete pylons and over 1,000 anchor rods to hold the massive structure in place. Portland Bolt was able to ship the anchor rods on time by utilizing our in house hot-dip galvanizing line and our 140,000 square foot manufacturing plant. Both factors allow us to process large volume orders in a quick turnaround. With Portland Bolt having 14 Landis Cut Threaders and inventorying over one million pounds of steel round bar we are a great option for any large scale projects with critical lead times.
