Hoonah, AK, USA

Norwegian Cruise Line and the Alaska Native corporation have partnered up to transform Icy Strait Point into a vehicle-free tourism hub. The new high-speed sky gondola will have two 8-passenger gondola systems that will be able to transport approx. 5,600 people per hour between the attractions. The attractions include the historic Icy Strait Cannery, Wilderness Landing, and Hoonah Mountain. At Hoonah Mountain guests can enjoy the world’s longest ZipRider. Before the installation of the sky gondola, 72 buses were required to transport guests around these sites. The new sky gondola will also be wheelchair and scooter accessible for all to enjoy.

This project required many large tie-rod assemblies spanning up to 26’ in length. Our 140,000 square foot manufacturing facility is perfectly designed to manufacture custom tie-rod assemblies just like these. Before shipping, Portland Bolt assembled all clevises and turnbuckles to the rods to ensure each component fit properly and allowed for easy installation upon arrival. We also wrapped all the exposed threaded ends to provide extra protection during transit to Alaska. Tie-rod assemblies can be tricky, but here at Portland Bolt, we walk you through the step-by-step process to make it as easy as possible. The project also required structural bolts and hex bolts along with matching nuts and washers which Portland Bolt keeps in stock. If you have a project that requires tie-rod assemblies, give Portland Bolt a call. Our 11 estimators are standing by and we’re ready to help you on your next project!
