Liberty Island, where the Statue of Liberty resides, was in the direct line of Hurricane Sandy. The statue was spared, but the damage to the docks was very extensive. Officials wanted the docks operating for the 4th of July (2013) holiday. The contractor chose Portland Bolt to supply the custom hot-dip galvanized and stainless steel headed bolts because of the tight schedule and urgency of completion. Portland Bolt manufactured and shipped 2,150 stainless steel headed bolts in 10 work days as well as 830 galvanized headed bolts in 5 work days. The stainless steel bolts were 1/2” and 3/4” in diameter up to 26” long. The galvanized bolts ranged from 1/2” to 1” diameter up to 14” in length. All product was 100% domestic.
