Do you manufacture metric bolts?
All bolts we manufacture are made to imperial measurements. The primary reason for this is because the steel used to make bolts is milled to imperial sizes. Even though metric measurements are almost exclusively used internationally, most raw materials are only available domestically in inches.
Often projects, such as highways, bridges, and power plants specify fasteners to metric sizes. In these cases engineers will typically approve “soft conversions” from metric drawings to the nearest imperial measure. For example, a request for 22mm bolts would be converted 7/8 of an inch. In the case where a soft conversion is not an option, we can offer custom fasteners machined to metric dimensions or discuss other possible solutions.
Please help me understand “convert metric to imperial”, since all the tables I see are only close approximations. In other words, if something were tapped for a 10mm 1.5 bolt, how could there be a replacement with an imperial bolt (without being too loose, or too tight)? Thanks.
@Don- When we convert from metric, all we can do are approximations. If you have a hole tapped for a M10-1.5 bolt, there will not be an imperial size that will thread into that – only an M10-1.5 will thread into it. When we convert metric to imperial, it only works when we also supply the mating nut. For example, it someone asks us to supply an M20 anchor bolt, we would supply either a 3/4-10 or a 7/8-9 bolt, and we would include the nut.
