Locust Street Substation

Portland Bolt is not just confined to providing custom bolts to the Pacific Northwest. In fact, we ship to all 50 states each year, and in March of 2012 we provided 2,500 pounds of hot-dip galvanized 1-1/4” A449 anchor rods, A563 grade DH heavy hex nuts, and F436 washers to a substation in Camden, New Jersey. With the steel stock on the floor and our unique ability to hot-dip galvanize in house, we were able to ship the order complete in 6 days and with only a 4 day transit time, the bolts delivered on site exactly two weeks after the order was placed keeping the contractor ahead of schedule.

Harper Lake Solar Field Test Loop

In mid-2012, the contractor performing the installation and erection of the Harper Lake Solar Field Test Loop outside Barstow, California found themselves in a bind and contacted Portland Bolt. The project had originally been specified with metric anchor rod assemblies, but the delay involved with importing the metric rods from overseas was in danger of throwing the job off schedule. Portland Bolt worked with the contractor and the engineer in Germany responsible for the project to come up with an imperial equivalent that could be rapidly manufactured and galvanized in our facility and delivered on site by the time critical date needed to keep the project on schedule.

With our in house galvanizing line, Portland Bolt was able to push the anchor rod assemblies through our manufacturing facility on an expedited schedule and deliver over 5,000 pounds of custom galvanized anchor rod assemblies on site within 12 days. As the contractor stated in a subsequent email, they “..did not have to spend time cleaning threads on bolts which made the job in the field that much faster/easier..” and “..all ordered parts were received promptly (so we) did not have to track down missing nuts or bolts.”   Read more...

Ameresco Butte County Landfill Gas to Energy (LFGTE) Facility

In January of 2012, Portland Bolt was called on to provide the custom anchor packages for this project. The fast tracked project was supplied with all of the various bent anchors, anchor rods, fabricated plates, and miscellaneous hardware required to keep the project on schedule. Once completed, the project will collect methane gas produced by decaying organic materials in the landfill, and pipe it to the new gas-to-energy plant, where it will be used to power specially designed engines that convert it to electricity. Once operational, the plant will produce enough electricity to power an estimated 1,300 homes and will be the only plant of its kind in California north of Sacramento.  Read more...

McKinley Children’s Center Solar Power Project

In August of 2011, the McKinley Children's Center in San Dimas, California broke ground on a 496 kW solar power generation project. The project consisted of the construction and installation of thirty one 16 kiloWatt CPV solar arrays. Instead of the usual stationary arrays, the project used motorized panels able to tilt and track the sun throughout the day. This required the arrays to sit on extended height columns, which in turn required longer than typical anchor bolts. The contractor performing the installation of the arrays called on Portland Bolt to provide these anchor bolt assemblies.

Portland Bolt manufactured nearly 1,200 custom galvanized F1554 Grade 55 anchor bolt assemblies for the project, shipping the first 500 assemblies to the job in just over a week’s time to help keep the project on schedule. Our in house galvanizing line and our large steel inventory were two of the reasons that we were able to manufacture these special anchor bolts so quickly. Read more...

Lodi Energy Power Plant

In the Summer of 2010, the California Energy Commission and Northern California Power Agency got together to begin construction of what was referred to as a “massive” power plant project known as the Lodi Energy Power Plant. The Lodi Energy Center is a natural gas-fired, combined-cycle nominal 280 megawatt power generation facility. The estimated cost of $452 million. The Energy Center is designed to be one of the cleanest and most efficient power plants in the country. For a project of this magnitude, scheduling of construction materials being delivered to the jobsite on time was a critical element. 

Starting in August of 2010 and continuing through April of 2011, Portland Bolt manufactured and shipped over 40,000 pounds of custom anchor bolts to the Lodi Power Plant jobsite. On top of being hot-dip galvanized per ASTM F2329, most of the anchor bolts had a square plate and a nut welded to the embedded of the rod. In addition to that, a good number of the anchor bolts had a schedule 40 steel pipe sleeve cut to length and filet welded to the square plate. Read more...

Large Crane Mats for Canadian Utility

Portland Bolt‘s ability to economically and quickly manufacture threaded rods all within our own facility allows us to be a competitive and responsive source for rods used in the construction of large wooden mats. These mats, commonly referred to as crane mats, are used to create temporary bases for equipment to sit upon on jobsites where creating a foundation is too costly, impossible or when the equipment will only be used in the spot temporarily. In April of 2011 Portland Bolt supply over a thousand 1" diameter, 74" long galvanized rods  as well as almost two thousand ³⁄₄" diameter, 15" long rods, along with other plates and standard bolts. All of the rods were made on an accelerated lead time in about 1¹⁄₂ weeks in our facility in Portland, Oregon and shipped to a customer located in eastern Canada.
