Light Rail Projects
Portland Bolt manufactures galvanized down guy anchors and anchor bolts for overhead catenary (OCS) poles on light rail and trolley projects throughout the country.
In the winter of 2012, Portland Bolt was chosen to supply the Overhead Catenary System anchor bolts for this SANDAG trolley project. Our customer upgraded 15 miles of the existing Blue Line from downtown San Diego to San Ysidro in California. We manufactured 31,000 pounds of 2” and 21⁄2” diameter F1554 grade 55 galvanized anchor rods complete with welded flat bar anchor plates. Portland Bolt was chosen for our reliability and quality. We manufacture and galvanize in house so we control both the delivery schedule and quality of product from start to finish. We also make the welded flat bar anchor plates in our facility. This major design/build project will provide three new bridge spans over the Anacostia River in Washington DC, separating freeway traffic from the local traffic. In order to meet the general contractor’s aggressive schedule, the initial phase of the project included galvanized 1-1/2” diameter F1554 grade 105 thread each end rods, 2” diameter F1554 grade 105 galvanized thread each end rods, and 3 diameters of F1554 grade 105 all thread rod which we shipped in one week. Portland Bolt shipped all of these items on time thanks to our domestic steel inventory, fast track manufacturing, and in-house hot-dip galvanizing. For phase 2 of the project we manufactured 9,000 pounds of galvanized F1554 grade 105 overhead contact system (OCS) foundation anchor bolts for the new streetcar line.

Their answer is a 15.9 mile long Central Link light rail project that will connect downtown Seattle and Tukwila to the south.
The current stage of the project is working south towards Tukwila with over 4 miles of elevated guideway structure. Portland Bolt was selected to supply the anchor bolts for the overhead cantenary system (OCS) that supplies electricity for the trains. Gary Rusynyk, in our office, is coordinating our efforts with the general contractor. His extensive experience in the construction fastener industry spans over 28 years.
