Portland Bolt manufactures anchor bolts for both steel and wooden roller coasters at various theme parks throughout North America. As thrill rides become higher and faster, the sizes and quantities of anchor bolts required to safely support these structures continues to increase.

Ropes Adventure Playscape at Wonderwild

Ropes Adventure Playscape at Wonderwild

2013 - Houston, Texas

The Ropes Adventure Playscape allows kids to put their climbing abilities to the test in this safe, completely enclosed, 3-story ropes and obstacle course. It comes complete with rope swings, a skywalk, a spider web, and much more! This is a place where big kids (and little kids too) can find adventure and excitement on a specialized indoor ropes course.

In March of 2013, Portland Bolt was called upon to supply over 300 galvanized timber bolts of differing lengths for the new Ropes Adventure Playscape at Wonderwild. Due to our large inventory of 3/4" galvanized timber bolts, Portland Bolt was able to ship the bolts, nuts and washers that very same day, meeting the contractor’s specific schedule. Read more...

Cheetah Hunt

2010 - Tampa, Florida

In September of 2010, construction on the footings of the new Cheetah Hunt Coaster at Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay, Florida was in danger of falling behind schedule. Because of our reputation for fast turn around and quality product, Portland Bolt was selected to supply the custom anchor bolts required for the coaster's footings. In just over one week, Portland Bolt was able to manufacture over 300 large diameter, custom F1554 Grade 105 anchor rods of differing lengths and ship them via overnight air to Tampa, Florida. Our ability to respond to the customer's time critical requirements helped keep the project on schedule.

Set to open Spring 2011, the Cheetah Hunt coaster will be the newest attraction at Busch Gardens Tampa. It will be a Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) Launch Coaster that uses the force of repelling magnets to launch riders from 0 to 60 mph in a matter of seconds. The coaster will accelerate riders to 60 mph and up into the ride's signature tower element that will climb more than 10 stories above the African landscape theme before plunging them 130 feet into a subterranean trench. The new ride will set a new length record for Busch Gardens' roller coasters at 4,429 feet of track. Read more...

Buccaneer Battle

2009 - Gurnee, Illinois

In March of 2009, Portland Bolt supplied ¾" galvanized hex bolts ranging in length from 10" through 30", as well as hot-dip galvanized all thread rod for the new Six Flags Buccaneer Battle ride in Gurnee, Illinois. This boat ride is a truly interactive experience which allows the ride participants the use water cannons to blast targets and each other. The ride even allows passersby to join in on the action by using water cannons stationed around the ride.

Portland Bolt's inventory of galvanized fasteners and in-house galvanizing facility allowed for a quick turnaround to keep the project on schedule. Our in house galvanizing line is specifically designed for threaded fasteners and all fasteners are hand checked to ensure the nuts assemble easily. This means no more galvanizing headaches or last minute fighting to assemble nuts in the field. Read more...

Pony Express

2008 - Buena Park, California

The Pony Express thrill ride at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California debuted in 2008. This unique roller coaster launches riders from 0 – 38 miles per hour in 3 seconds. What makes this coaster truly unique is that riders are mounted atop horses instead of being seated in traditional coaster cars. The ride covers 1,300 feet of banked turns and camelback hills.

Portland Bolt supplied all of the anchor bolts and base plates for the new Pony Express roller coaster at Knott's Berry Farm. We worked with a southern California contractor on a very aggressive construction schedule. Portland Bolt manufactured and shipped over 12,000 pounds of galvanized A449 anchor bolts and galvanized A36 base plates. The first release of over 5,000 pounds of galvanized 1" diameter A449 anchor bolts and galvanized A36 base plates was manufactured and shipped in one week to keep the contractor on schedule. Grizzly River Run

2001 - Anaheim, California

In 2001, Disney's California Adventure theme park was opened adjacent to Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The park was designed to resemble specific aspects of California. One of the major sections of the park is the Grizzly Peak Recreation Area, which features a ride called Grizzly River Run. Grizzly River Run is a popular river raft ride which lifts riders up a wooden conveyor and sprays them with water. With its wooden architecture, the ride has an old western feel to it.

In keeping with the rustic nature of the ride, and much of the park, Portland Bolt supplied several thousand custom hot-dip galvanized square head machine bolts and square head lag bolts from 1/2" through 1" diameter.

While Portland Bolt supplied square head bolts for several areas of the park, the largest area of focus was the Grizzly River Run ride. There were important deadlines for the contractor to meet, and with our ability to perform in-house hot-dip galvanizing, along with our heading capabilities, Portland Bolt was able to meet these demanding lead time requirements to help keep the construction schedule on track.
