International Projects
Portland Bolt manufactures anchor bolts and nonstandard fasteners for a variety of construction projects throughout the world including: marine, power plant, airports and wind turbine. With broad manufacturing capabilities and technical expertise, staff can give you the right advice to help your project run smoothly, no matter where your job is located.
Pueblo Viejo Mine – Dominican Republic
In April of 2009, Portland Bolt was approached to manufacture anchor rods for an ore-processing facility and gold mine in the Dominican Republic. The Pueblo Viejo mine is expected to extract and process 24,000 tons of ore per day. The $2.7 billion project will create 3,500 jobs and considerable increase to the local economy.
During Phase 1, Portland Bolt delivered over 58,000 pounds of ASTM F1554 Grade 55 and 105 hot-dip galvanized anchor rods, with 52,000 pounds shipped in two weeks. To date we have provided almost 100,000 pounds of anchor bolts for this project. The assemblies ranged in diameters from 7/8" to 2-1/2" and included special packaging requirements to accommodate international shipping. The bolts were Charpy tested and many required welding. The customer needed quick delivery to meet their construction schedule. With our large steel inventory and in-house galvanizing, we were able to expedite production and deliver within the requested timeline.
Liquid Petroleum Gas Plant – Jubail, Saudi Arabia
Several times a year we get the opportunity to work with customers who have projects overseas. In 2007, a global provider of advanced combustion systems, asked Portland Bolt to supply anchor rods and J-bolts to support the flare stacks and panel racks for the new Sahara Al-Waha Petrochemical Plant. These galvanized anchor assemblies included nuts welded to 2-1/2” and 1-3/8” diameter anchor rods. After manufacturing was finished, the bolts were sent to Oklahoma to be packaged with other parts then sent together to the jobsite in Jubail, Saudi Arabia.
This $526 million liquid petroleum gas processing plant is being built and managed by Sahara Al-Waha. The facility will manufacture petrochemical products crucial to the region and is scheduled to come online the end of 2008.
Intergen Sidi Krir (3 & 4) - Sidi Krir, Egypt
Portland Bolt provided anchor bolts to Bechtel Power. These large diameter bolt assemblies were used for equipment and tower installations. This 2 unit, 682-megawatt power plant was the first large scale privately owned power generation facility in Egypt.
