International Projects
Portland Bolt manufactures anchor bolts and nonstandard fasteners for a variety of construction projects throughout the world including: marine, power plant, airports and wind turbine. With broad manufacturing capabilities and technical expertise, staff can give you the right advice to help your project run smoothly, no matter where your job is located.
Piedra Blanca Substation
The Piedra Blanca Substation is being built for the Pueblo Viejo Gold Mine expansion project. Portland Bolt has already supplied over 100,000 pounds of galvanized steel anchor bolts for this project. Every phase of this project has been on a fast track.
In June of 2011, Portland Bolt provided 8,200 pounds of anchor bolts immediately for the Piedra Blanca Substation project. We manufactured and galvanized over 500 ASTM F1554 grade 36 headed anchor bolts in just 12 days. These anchor bolts ranged in diameter from 1” through 1-1/4 and were all 30” in length. This included full assembly of nuts and export packaging. A follow up order two months later included 1-1/2” diameter galvanized F1554 grade 55 bent anchor bolts.
Portland Bolt manufactures bolts from steel bars and our in-house hot-dip galvanizing line allows us to control the manufacturing schedule from start to finish. This allows us to quote shorter lead times, but more importantly it allows us to meet our promised shipping date over 99% of the time. Portland Bolt has earned a reputation as a reliable, fast track anchor bolt supplier for projects all over the world.

Samalkot Power Plant Expansion
In February 2011, Portland Bolt was called upon to supply the anchor bolts required for six heat-recovery steam generators (HRSG) capable producing 2,400 megawatts of electricity for the Samalkot Power Plant Expansion in India. The project will be the largest gas turbine combined cycle power project in India's history. With much of the financial backing coming from US banks, the project requires a percentage the material be of US domestic content and because of this, the project is expected to generate thousands of jobs here in the US. The project is scheduled for a fast track delivery and has an expected completion timeline of less than two years.
The fast track schedule and requirement for domestic material made Portland Bolt the natural choice as the anchor bolt supplier. The project required over 77,500 lbs of galvanized A449 anchor bolt assemblies in sizes ranging from 1" thru 2-1/2" diameter and almost 10' length. The delivery schedule required three separate shipments. The first shipment included over 25,000 pounds of galvanized anchor bolts that were manufactured in just 8 working days and specially packaged for an international air shipment. The customer also required the bolts be assembled, packaged, and marked so that when they arrived on the jobsite they could be easily recognized and deployed to different areas of the jobsite for each of the 6 steam generators. Portland Bolt successfully completed all requirements of the project within the specified time frame.
Pueblo Viejo Mine
In April of 2009, Portland Bolt was approached to manufacture anchor rods for an ore-processing facility and gold mine in the Dominican Republic. The Pueblo Viejo mine is expected to extract and process 24,000 tons of ore per day. The $2.7 billion project will create 3,500 jobs and considerable increase to the local economy.
During Phase 1, Portland Bolt delivered over 58,000 pounds of ASTM F1554 Grade 55 and 105 hot-dip galvanized anchor rods, with 52,000 pounds shipped in two weeks. To date we have provided almost 100,000 pounds of anchor bolts for this project. The assemblies ranged in diameters from 7/8" to 2-1/2" and included special packaging requirements to accommodate international shipping. The bolts were Charpy tested and many required welding. The customer needed quick delivery to meet their construction schedule. With our large steel inventory and in-house galvanizing, we were able to expedite production and deliver within the requested timeline.
Private Dock & Pavilion
In September of 2008, Portland Bolt provided 3⁄4" x 24" galvanized timber bolts and 3⁄4" x 18" and 5⁄8" x 16" galvanized hex bolts for the construction of a 200 foot arrival dock and recreation pavilion on a private island in Fiji.
Portland Bolt manufactures, galvanizes, and inventories a variety of bolts and specialty hardware for the construction of marine facilities of all sizes. Portland Bolt provides fasteners for projects ranging from small residential docks to multi-million dollar commercial marina projects all over the world.
In May of 2010, Portland Bolt was contacted again by the builder to supply fasteners to rebuild the dock after a devastating cyclone. We manufactured and supplied an additional 5,600 bolts, nuts, and washers and sent them off to Fiji in just over two weeks.
Ann E. Abramson Pier Fender System
The Ann E. Abramson Marine Facility is located in Frederiksted on the island of Saint Croix. The Virgin Island Port Authority recently performed a $3.6 million enhancement that allows two cruise ships to dock simultaneously, including the 140,000-ton Eagle class cruise ships. At 1,526 feet this large pier can accommodate 2 cruise ships at a time. As the main cruise ship port on the island, quick repairs were crucial.
The repair required large diameter galvanized hex bolts. We were able to manufacture to their specifications and deliver in time for the installation.
