Marine Construction Industry

Marine contracting is one of the industries that ties in extremely well with Portland Bolt’s manufacturing capabilities. Our highly efficient roll threading provides a cost benefit on mild steel bolts 1” and under. In addition, our in-house galvanizing provides the quality and quick turnaround needed to help marine projects run smoothly and on schedule. Some of the products we provide include timber bolts, shear plates, and malleable iron washers.

In addition to numerous projects on the west coast, Portland Bolt has provided bolts for marine projects in places such as Texas, Louisiana, Maryland, and even overseas. Learn more about recent marine projects.

Timber Bolts

Timber bolts have long been used in heavy timber and marine construction projects. This bolt is also commonly referred to as an economy bolt since it helps to reduce costs by eliminating the need for an additional malleable iron washer. The oversized round head helps prevent the bolt from pulling through lumber, while providing a lower profile than a hex bolt. This unique head height makes it ideal for bridge decking and dock structures. Click to learn more.

ASTM Letter Designation Explained

For example, a common bolt specification is A449 - 07a, although when specified the standard’s year designation is usually not included. Click to learn more.
