Al Fogel graduated from Benson High School in 1967 and immediately started in the machining field as an apprentice at Lockheed Aircraft. In 1970 Al decided to become a Los Angeles Police Officer and spent the 70's as a LAPD Training Officer, Vice Officer, and a Uniform Patrol Officer. In 1981 he returned to his home town of Portland, Oregon and resumed his metal trades profession. He renewed his machinist journeyman status through another abbreviated apprenticeship. In 1987 he was approached to come to Portland Bolt to run the manufacturing department. His time at Portland Bolt has included moving the facility into a new 55,000 square foot building, designing and installing two new galvanizing systems, expanding the facility to 85,000 square feet, and seeing the company grow into a leader in the construction fastener industry.
